DA Carroll talks about his house in Coatesville
by Allen Davis Staff Writer Posted: Friday, 15 Aug. 2 p.m. Coatesville Council Member Marty Eggleston found his announcement that District Attorney Joe Carroll would be a few minutes late arriving at Tuesday nights forum on violence a little unusual. "He said he is on his way home," Eggleston told those inside the Set Free by the Word Ministries at 827 E. Lincoln Highway. "He has a house right around the corner; I guess I'm going to have to get used to that." Carroll, who is serving his second term as the county's top law enforcement officer, purchased a house on North East Lincoln Highway last month with the intention, according to those close to him, of moving into the house once it is rehabbed. Carroll hasn't spoken much publicly -- or at least when the media is around -- about his decision to buy a house in an area historically noted for its high crime rate. "I invested here because I think it's a good place to be," he said Tuesday night to the hundred-some people who turned out for the Taking Back Our City form. Last month Carroll reportedly paid $35,000 for the house which is needs extensive repairs. And Carroll pointed out just how personal is about about a block-by-block attack against crime. "I would like to start on my own block cleaning things up," he said. Asked pointedly if he plans on moving into the house, he smiled and said: "Wait and see," Then he quickly added. "There's no water in there now and I'm not moving in without water." You can e-mail Allen Davis at: allen@chestercountyreporter.com |
