Second arrest made in Coatesville arsons
by Allen Davis Staff Writer Posted: Friday, 20 Feb. 2009 8 a.m. Authorities last night arrested a second man in connection with the spree of arsons that have terrorized Coatesville residents. Mark Gillman, 20, of West Chester, was taken into custody last night. He was charged with the attempted arson of the Happy Day's Family Bristo in Thorndale on Jan. 25. He and Roger Barlow Jr. are reported to be close friends. Barlow was charged yesterday afternoon with intentionally setting nine fires in Coatesville, including the Jan. 24 fire on Fleetwood Street that destroyed 15 row homes including the home of city Council Member Robin Scott. While Barlow was arraigned on state charges, Gillman was to be arraigned before a federal judge on federal charges. At a press conference yesterday, District Attorney Joe Carroll said he was not convinced Barlow acted alone. He said the investigation would continue. Later that day Gillman was arrested.
