Ray wants to reduce City Hall work week to four days
by Allen Davis Staff Writer Posted: Friday, 13 November. 2009; 11:30 p.m. Council Member Patsy Ray proposed at Thursday's budget work session that city employees other than police and fire be placed on a four-day work week. "I do believe you can do all the work in four days," said Ray. Ray also questioned why the city couldn't outsource its codes department and eliminate the fire department, leaving the city with all volunteer firefighters. "I've been to a lot of fires and its always the volunteers who show up first," she said. Walker said he didn't believe a four-day work week would work. "We're already backed up and we're staying behind. I just don't see it," he said. Ray also questioned why those employees belonging to a union were getting raises and those not represented weren't. "The people who are doing all the work don't get it (a pay increase) while the union people do get it," she said "Council Member Karen Jorgenson said in the past two years non-union works have received pay increasesYou can e-mail Allen Davis at: allen@chestercountyreporter.com |
